Open Question: What can I do about a dentist service I dont want? Please help me, I feel desperate?
I went to the dentist because one of my fillings felt. Before going there, I asked them the price of their fillings but they said it depended on my insurance. Once I was there, they gave me some papers to sign they said for my insurance.. yes, I know I was very stupid not to read them but I was in so much pain. I told them which filling felt off and the dentist drilled me that molar... and the next to it. Then he told me I needed a root canal in the one that was not even feeling pain... and crowns in both of them! I know that dentist have this reputation of trying to take the most of your health care service but I ended that day with a debt of $6,000.00 dollars (yes, six thousand) for only both of my molars. From that amount I have to pay $2,000 out of my pocket which I of course don't have cause that's almost my salary. I went out of the place in worst pain because they only put temporary fillings and I have been so much in physical pain from my original tooth since then. I called them next day and told them I didn't want to go back because it was not in my possibilities to pay 2,000 but that I would pay for what they did that day. They said they would send me my bill and they didn't. Told them I would get a second opinion. When I hanged to them I finished reading the papers they had given to me and I see I signed for a dental credit card. I called that credit card immediately to canceled it as I was going to pay these guys for what they did. The girl of the credit card said my card was still in zeros so she was cancelling it as I was going for a second opinion. I have not received the bill for what they made to me so I could pay them off from that day. I went back to talk to them last week and the dentist laughed at my face telling me I would be back to their services. Now I know what he meant... yesterday it arrived the letter of the dental credit card for the $2,000 dlls. There I go, called the credit card and told them it was cancelled... they tell me they never cancelled and that they could not do anything as this was already my debt. I called the dentist office and they say they cannot do anything as they already passed the payment to the credit card and that now I have to pay that $2,000 for a service that: 1) I have not received, 2) I don't want to receive from them. Is there any way to do something legally? I went to another doctor and said I don't need a root canal and that in his office a crown would cost me there $300 using my healthcare service. Please,, I feel so helpless. I still have my toothache but is almost nothing compared with the nightmare I have been through these two weeks. Should I go to court and put a complaint? I have no idea what to do or where to go now to solve this problem. Thank you for your legal advice.
