Open Question: Why do we hate socialism-like things in America while we Support it all the Same?

Okay, not to sound like a Frenchman who get a lifetime of health care, most of which he does not stand in lines, gets to choose his own doctor(s), gets prescriptions pennies on the dollar compare to Americans, and although he pays like 20% extra in taxes, he gets to enjoy these benefits for the rest of his life, even after he retires bringing down that 20% investment after retirement.

Whereas in America, it's often based on your job, or paid out of pocket. Fees are expensive, prescriptions are very expensive, most have to rely on managed care to some extent, so they don't get any doctor they want, most regular suburb and urban ER's look more like combat triages, and you could lose your insurance at anytime, regardless how hard of a worker you are.

So we say we hate Socialism in America, but yet we have public education (socialistic), a police department (socialistic), and even a library (very socialistic) that we pay taxes on. After all, we could force the local citizens to patrol their own areas, force them to educate their own children, or pay to have it all done, and make them rent their books at the very least, if not purchase them.

So going back to health care in America, we get to pay about 18-30% of our income towards medical expenses, that we pay hopefully in pretaxed money, or the crazy Frenchman gets to pay 20% flat and basically does not have to worry about his care. Their debt is going up, but not all related to healthcare, and I am not saying France is perfect by any means of the imagination, but I suppose what bothers me is,

If we can afford to fight, kill and police all these people in the world, then why can't we afford to take care of our own first? What's so anti-American about that? Take care of everyone, so they can live to compete another day in the working world?
It's pretty safe to say America is going to exceed the GDP in debt a lot faster than France, meaning we will go broke before them, and have what again?
imaxkr, I understand where you are coming from, but if you look at it from an economics standpoint, if every American was pooled under the same network of doctors and health insurance, at least everyone would get their basic care taken care of. They idea that we have to have many health care insurance companies to help drive down cost simply does not work in America because these institutions are not driving down cost, they are driving up prices while cutting services and lowering medical teams to reserve numbers. They are not into care, they are into business, which is cool if you are selling Coke where you have options someone is not going to die from a decision.
