Open Question: HSA Account and "C: Corp Rules - IRS defination seems vaugue....?
My wife and I own a business set up as a C Corp and am trying to clarify if 1 ) corp can pay directly for monthly premium for a Qualified High Deductible Health "family" Plan that is owned individually by us (In past the Company always paid our regular health insurance plan owned personally, but now we have a QHDHP, so not sure?); and 2 ) contribute to HSA. We are the only employees and the only share holders. Business has been in existence since mid-80's as "C" Corp.
Also, what are the tax implications on a company HSA contribution for a "C" Corp employee"? Is it income to the employee? Is it deductible by the business (C Corp) as an Employee Benefit Expense? Does it save on matching FICA and Medicare on the employer end? Additionally, not only would we want to deduct personally from our HSA from our Corporations via our payroll check, but we would like to set up a company "match" of contributions. I can't find anything definitive on the tax consequences or benefits on the IRS website or searching the web when it comes to the "C" Corp entity. There are definitive answers for all other business entities (ie: partnership, S Corp, etc.), but not a C Corp.
