Open Question: If I don't pay a disputed medical bill will it affect my credit?
I have excellent credit and don't want to screw that up. I have a medical bill that is under dispute. I am a diabetic and ordered some mail order insulin pump supplies from Medtronic. They have sent me a bill for the entire amount even though I have insurance. I tried to sort it out on the phone with then and my health insurance. They refuse to budge. I'm about 90% I am in the right and not going to pay $500 (I'm unemployed now, broke and thats a lot of money). I told them I'm not paying it (I've had diabetes for 20 years and gone through lots of insurance so I'm not ignorant with the terms, etc.), but just want to know can they do anything to screw up my credit? I don't even have that insurance anymore so I'm curious what they might do.
