Open Question: Receiving SSI with no medical history?

I've been going through a very tough time for the past 6 years, mentally, emotionally, and financially, and I am now looking for some sort of help for the financial aspect as it is getting even tougher to get by and I see no end in sight.

I would like to look into applying for SSI citing depression, but my issue is that I do not have a personal medical history to back it up. I have been without health insurance for 10 years and could not afford to seek help for my mental and emotional issues. Even for places with sliding scale payments, that money had to go to bills and I had no way to get there most of the time. I'm 22 and have been housebound for almost every day for the past 5 years. I currently live with my parents and have no income whatsoever.

My family has a history of mental illness. My mother receives SS disability monthly for manic depression and her sister has a long history of mental instability in her past.

Would these factors at all help me in being approved? Am I wasting my time thinking they would approve me without a long personal medical history for depression? Are there other programs that might benefit me?
