Open Question: Would you go into your 401k to save your house?
I already went into my 401K and took $20K out, and with taxes and penalty saw about $15K of it. I did this because I quit a long term job I had for a temp job and knew I would need money for expensive Cobra health insurance. I also did it in case I wasn't hired by the temp job (jobs in my field are temp to perm). Well, I still have about $10K of the $15K left, a few months later. I've been on disability and going back soon to Unemployment. I anticipate getting a temp job within 60 days of being on Unemployment. My aunt will give me some money to tide me over. I was thinking I will need about $15K of my 401k to live on while unemployed. I only have about $30K left in my 401k after taking out $. I'm 46 and very dumb, I know. If I don't get a job or a permanent one quickly (I have a sketchy job history, sort of) I will have wasted my 401k money. The thing is I have to move back in with my dad and that is a fate worse than death practically for me! Would you go into your 401k to save your house? Thx.
