Open Question: Having surgery but have no health insurance?
Im 25 and do not have health insurance. Never had any surgery or bi medical procedure done for that matter but in a few days I have to get 2 large kidney stones removed. One is 12 mm and anything over 6mm has a less then 10% of passing on their own said the doctors. Already had to go to the emergency room because of the extreme back pain, and bladder pain it causes. But all that aside my only concern is the bill I'll be getting. I've heard it can be anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000 for just the one procedure and one emergency room visit. Wondering if anyone else has been in my situation and is there any programs I can take part in to get the bill reduced? I have been told I may qualify for something called CHAP and I am suppose to be meeting with someone at the hospital on the day of my surgery to discuss that. I live in Delaware and make just a little over $600 every 2 weeks. Im not one of these people who take advantage and abuse the system but Im realy hoping I can get some help. I have no problem paying a few thousand but there is no way I can afford $10,000 or $20,000.
