Open Question: How does Obamacare equate to socialism?
My understanding of Obamacare is basically an expansion of Medicare to offer all americans a lower cost insurance program that doesn't include the typical rules of private companies that don't cover preexisting conditions. While it does require all to have insurance, it doesn't require all Americans to opt into the government program and all are free to use private insurers as they are today. How is this akin to socialism?
I also understand socialism isn't an easily defined word but in my life time it seems to have become the antithesis (opposite) of capitalism, but since Obama care does not eliminate the free market of health insurers, how can it be constituted as anti-capitalism.
Seeing that it is not complete nationalized health care like what exists in the UK and Canada, for example, am I expected to believe now that Canada and the UK are Socialist countries?
