Open Question: 22 years old and want to join NY state National Guard?
I am going for a Pharmacy Technician certificate over the summer. I hope to land some type of job in that field, but with this economy who knows. I am currently working off the books mostly helping out my uncle at his business.
I would sign a six year contract because I currently have no health insurance and I have read after six years even if you separate from the Guard, you are eligible for VA benefits.
My question here is, let's say I land a decent job and am only available on weekends for the guard. Would signing up for a six year contract be a bit risky? Do you think I should count on it being a one weekend a month job for six years, or should I be ready to deploy possibly to a combat zone?
