Open Question: How old is too old to live at home?
I had posted a Facebook comment, not directed toward any single person, but just a generalization about grown adults who are still dependent on their parents and need to "grow up" already. A friend of mine has become extremely offended by this comment and disagrees with me and my so to speak standards on when your parents should stop supporting you financially. So I'm just curious to get some opinions from others, how old do you think is too old to still be living at home?
To shed some light on the situation... she is about to turn 26, has a masters degree, a decent job at a big oil & gas company making a little over $50k/year in Houston (it's dirt cheap to live here), no student loans from undergrad or grad school since her parents put her through, she's on her parents car insurance and cell phone plans, she lives with them so they pay all the bills and utilities, she's still on her mother's health insurance plan instead of her own through her employer although my guess is that will be forced to change when she hits 26 in a couple months and to take it one step further... her mother gases up her car.
I would almost say her parents are doing her a disservice because I can't imagine her moving out and taking care of herself, let alone starting her own family. So what do you guys think of someone who still "parents" their grown child this way?
